Reaching Out, Growing Close, Changing Lives

Announcements

~ Our Annual Thanksgiving Eve Dinner is Wednesday, November 21 at 5:00-7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  The dinner is open to everyone, so invite your friends and neighbors!  Volunteers are needed to set up, serve, and cleanup.  If you can help, a signup sheet is in the Narthex or contact Bill Kline. Also, if you know of someone who is shut in that we can deliver a meal to that night, please contact the office.

~ The Homeless Ministry is in need of heavy blankets or comforters to give out on the monthly trips to help the homeless.  All your donations are very much appreciated by both this Ministry and especially the Homeless.

~ Wednesday Night Dinners!  Join us for delicious food and Christian fellowship at 6:00 pm every Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall.

~ The Women’s Bible Study meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:45-8:00 pm in the Parlor.  We are currently doing a series on the Ten Women of the Bible.  On Nov. 28 we begin our Advent series studying “The Redemption of Scrooge,” by Matt Rawle. This Advent series invites us to enter into the pathos of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol to discover anew the healing power of God’s grace.  Even the most selfish, sinful person is not beyond the reach of God’s love in Jesus Christ.  As we spiritually consider our past, present, and future, may we, like Scrooge, recommit ourselves to kindness, living with a generous spirit in today’s world of haves and have-nots. If you have any questions, please contact Diana Seen at dianaseen4@comcast.net.

~ New Bible Study! Join us on Wednesday nights following the community dinner for a new bible study for Adult Teens through Thirties.  We're offering a time of fellowship and fun studies of the Bible.  Any questions about the study can be directed to Kevin Roby at kmcl.roby@comcast.net, or Mitzi Roby at mitzidawn@verizon.net.

~ Children’s Sunday School is every Sunday during worship service after the children's message. Our lessons sometimes involve food, so please be sure to let Cindy Rothhaas know if your child has any allergies or dietary restrictions. We can always use middle/high school helpers. Please let Cindy know if you are able to be a helper or if you have any questions at 410-867-2973 or at rrothhaas@comcast.net. The K-5th grade lessons for October are listed on Children's Ministry info page.

~ Nominations Committee.  Thanks to everyone who agreed to serve on a committee either immediately (if filling a vacancy) or starting on January 1, 2019 (if you are part of a new class for a committee).  We will include the committee memberships list in the January 2019 newsletter and also post it in the church Narthex.  If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Glen.

~ Sanctuary/Sunday Committee Update—Sandy Burns.  Again I would like to thank all of the volunteers that have helped with greeting, nursery and ushers. We had a great response to volunteers to greet on Sunday mornings.  Did you enjoy greeting church members?  Please sign up again to volunteer for another Sunday.  We really need more volunteers to work in the nursery.  Are you reluctant to volunteer because you don’t think that you have enough knowledge of the bible or scriptures?  It is nice to have the knowledge but is not mandatory for this support.  We should have two volunteers each Sunday however due to the low response we have not always been able to do that.  Please volunteer so that we can rotate the Sundays so that there is no need to miss Church services every week.  Please talk to Courtney Roby or Debbie Huffman if you have any questions.  We can also use more volunteers for ushers on Sundays.  Please talk to Randy Smith or Spike Deale if you have any questions about being an usher.  Again thank you for the support each Sunday.  Please contact Sandy Burns at 410-867-7898 if you have any questions or want to provide suggestions on how we can better support Cedar Grove UMC.  God bless everyone.

~ New Members Class.  If you are interested in joining the church please let Pastor Glen know.

~ Tuesday Bible Study will be starting Genesis in November.  If you have wanted to come to the study and were waiting for us to start a new book or have an interest in Genesis please join us in the Fellowship Hall at 10:00 am on Tuesday.

~ The rumors are true, the once a month Bible Study will during the September 2018 to May 2019 period study the Book of Revelation.  While the class has already had its first session it is not too late to join us.  Contact Pastor Glen to get the materials needed for the second class.

~ Have you noticed that the Scripture reading on Sunday mornings is now often done by lay people?  If you would like to read the Scriptures on any given Sunday please let Pastor Glen know.  If someone has not already taken that day, the office will send you an email with the text so you will be ready on Sunday or the pastor always has a printed version of the text at the pulpit.

~ Our live streaming is a real blessing at Cedar Grove!  If you know of anyone that can't make it to church in person on a Sunday, then please invite them to visit online via cgumc.org/live.

~ If you would like offering envelopes, please contact the Church office at 410-867-7417 or by email at office@cgumc.org.

~ Has your address, phone number, or email address has changed recently? If so, please notify the church office.  Thank you.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study – Pastor Glen has a 10am bible study on Tuesday mornings. The group meets in the Fellowship Hall.  All are welcome to attend. Just stop on by the study or contact the office.

The once a month Bible class will study the Book of Revelation during September 2018 thru May 2019. We will study every chapter of the book, look at all the various ways of understanding it including how it has been understood through the history of the church, learn the meaning of words like pre-millennial, eschatology, apocalyptic, mid-tribulation, rapture, and other such words that get bantered about in discussions of this book.  We will also look at what Jesus says in the Gospels about His return, the impact of the Old Testament on the Book of Revelation, and other important topics.  Look for the signup sheet in the church narthex and you can sign-up to attend either the Monday morning 10am class (always held on the Monday the day before the third Tuesday of the month) or the Tuesday evening class at 7pm (always the third Tuesday of the month).  If you have any questions about this class, please contact Pastor Glen. Note: If Christ returns before the first class, the class is cancelled!
